Small plane lands, takes off again on Fla. highway

EDGEWATER, Fla. – A small plane made an emergency landing on a Florida interstate and later took off again from the same stretch of road.

No one was injured in the incident Wednesday night.

The Florida Highway patrol says the pilot began having engine problems with his 1972 Grumman plane around 7 p.m. and decided to land on Interstate 95 near Edgewater, which is about 20 miles south of Daytona Beach. The 61-year-old pilot, Glenn Wade, managed to maneuver onto a stretch of interstate where no cars were.

The plane was moved to a shoulder, and all lanes of the Interstate remained open while Wade and another pilot inspected it.

After they determined it was safe to fly, troopers blocked traffic on the interstate around 8:45 p.m. to allow the plane to taxi and take off.
